Objective:
Locate a geocache or letterbox that cannot be accessed without climbing.
Details:
1) (Optional) Have you ever watched The Geocaching Vlogger on YouTube? Joshua puts out a new vlog every week about his adventures in geocaching. His positive attitude in contagious, making his videos well worth the watch. We suggest watching this video to help get you in the mood to complete this objective!
2) Read the “nitty gritty” requirements below, then identify a geocache or letterbox* that cannot be accessed without climbing.
The nitty gritty:
-By "climbing", we mean climbing vertically/straight up. In other words, the cache should be elevated several feet from the nearest ground and at an approximately 90* angle from the ground. Your feet will need to leave the ground in order to scale an object. Objects may include trees, boulders, man made structures and so on.
In some instances, you may need to climb an object to get to level ground on which the cache is placed. For instance, the cache may be placed on a cliff that can only be accessed by climbing a boulder. These situations would also fulfill this objective.
A good rule of thumb in deciding whether or not a geocache or letterbox meets this objective, is to check out the description page. Is the purpose of the hide to get you climbing? If so, you're in good shape.
-Don't do anything unsafe! If this objective isn't safe for you, choose another that is.
-You may complete this objective as a team! Not all of us are climbers. Providing support (helping to plan, carrying the snack, cheering) is just as important as the climbing itself.
3) Search for and find the geocache or letterbox you identified!
4) Take a photograph of yourself or team member making the find in the elevated location and post it in our Facebook Group.
5) Along with your photo, let us know:
What geocache/letterbox did you search for? (Provide GC/AQ number if relevant).
What geocache/letterbox did you search for?
(Provide GC/AQ number if relevant)Who went on your geocache/letterboxing adventure with you? Who made the climb?
Did anything interesting happen while you were searching?
*At Quest Scouts we use the term “hide” as an inclusive term that means either a geocache or a letterbox. Not familiar with either? Watch this video by Groundspeak, the #1 lister of geocaches or read about letterboxing from Atlas Quest.
