Objective:

Create and name your own soda flavor.

Details:

How do you make homemade soda? You’ll need to start by creating your own simple syrup! Then, simply mix it with seltzer and you’re done!

1) Start by researching simple syrups and/or homemade soda. (If you need a jumping off point, 50 Homemade Sodas from Food Network is a good start.)

2) Now is your chance to get creative! Using inspiration from the sources you found in step one, design your own soda flavor. You might do this by tweaking a recipe you found online, or come up with something completely original.

3) Bring your flavor to life! That’s right, we want you to test your soda recipe by combining the required ingredients. (This will likely require creating a simple syrup of your desired flavor and combing it with seltzer water.)

4) It’s time for a taste test! Give your soda a taste and decide whether it was a success or a flop.

5) Finally, give your soda a creative name! Choose something that encapsulates both your own personality and the flavor of the soda.

6) Take a photograph of your bubbly beverage and post it in our Facebook Group.

7) Along with your photo, tell us about your culinary adventure!

Let us know:

  • What did you name your soda?

  • What flavor(s) did you include in your soda?

  • Did your soda come out as you had hoped?

  • What, if anything, would you change if making your soda for a second time?

Pop - Find - 200

Objective:

Go on the hunt for a highly popular geocache or letterbox.

Details:

Some hides* are more POPular than others! For this objective, we’d like you to take the path more traveled while attempting to make a find.

1) Identify a popular hide that you’d like to search for.

If you opt for a geocache, identify a cache with at least 50 favorite points on geocaching.com. If you’d prefer to find a letterbox, identify a box labeled as a blue diamond.

2) Head out in search for the hide you identified! You don’t have to successfully make the find in order to complete this objective, but we wish you the best of luck!

3) Document your adventure with a photograph and post it in our Facebook Group.

4) Along with your photo, tell us about your adventure!

Let us know:

  • What geocache/letterbox did you search for? (Provide GC/AQ number if relevant.)

  • Was your hide a geocache or a letterbox?

  • How many people have made the find on that hide?

  • Why do you suspect the hide you chose is so popular?

  • Did anything interesting happen while you were searching?

  • Did you make the find?

*At Quest Scouts we use the term “hide” as an inclusive term that means either a geocache or a letterbox. Not familiar with either? Watch this video by Groundspeak, the #1 lister of geocaches or read about letterboxing from Atlas Quest.

artisanal

adjective

: produced in limited quantities by an artisan through the use of traditional methods

artisanal bread/cheese/wine

also : creating a product in limited quantities by traditional methods

an artisanal winery

an artisanal cheese maker

Objective:

Head to an establishment that serves small batch or artisanal soda and sample a glass for yourself.

Details:

1)  Research the “soda scene” in your area until you discover an establishment that sells small batch soda or artisanal- in other words, “bougie pop”. We are purposefully leaving this definition a little vague to allow for regional differences, but at its heart we’re looking for a soda that is local and not mass produced. Depending on where you live, you may need to travel a bit to find what you’re looking for.

Tip: A lot of times, in addition to beer, your local brewery creates its own rootbeer. You may want to check there! (And if they don’t know, they may be able to suggest where you should look!)

2) Visit the establishment you chose and try the soda.

IMPORTANT: While usually we ask you not to overlap objectives, you may use this soda as one of your Fizzy Flight selections if you would like to.

3) Document your bougie pop adventure with at least one photo and post it in our Facebook Group.

4) Tell us about your experience in the comments below:

  • How did you discover this “bougie pop” and/or what made you choose it?

  • Where was the soda sold?

  • What type of soda was it?

  • What did you think of the soda? Would you recommend it to a fellow scout?

Objective:

Create a collage using only triangles.

Details:

Previously, for our In Print art objective, we chose your collage medium (newsprint paper) but left the subject of the collage up to you. This time, we’re doing the opposite! Choose any collage medium you’d like, but we’d like your subject to be exclusively triangles. (There’s still a ton of freedom and creativity possible here even within this constraint!)

1) Gather your supplies. At its heart, a collage is a piece of art made by adhering material(s) to a canvas.

You'll need:

A) Canvas (Any canvas will do, but if you use paper, thicker is better.)

B) Collage Medium of your choice (Fabric, patterned paper, magazines, photos…)

C) Adhesive

2) Create your triangle collage!

IMPORTANT: Remember, the objective here is to make a collage EXCLUSIVELY out of triangles.

This is a higher point objective, so don't rush it! Put some time in effort into making something you're proud to share.

Objective:

Slide down a slide.

Details:

Picture a classic, simple playground slide. The ladder is at a 90 degree angle from the ground, while the slide itself is at an angle toward the ground. It’s basically a triangle of fun. Next time you’re near a park, take ten minutes to earn a quick 100 points!

1) (Optional) Watch Friction from Crash Course to learn a bit about the physics of sliding down a slide.

2) Find a slide to slide down. Choose any slide you like! You can go for a classic playground slide, or up the stakes with something a bit more epic. Perhaps even a waterslide? Or the 1,000 ft. Glass Slide in Las Vegas?!

3) Slide down the slide!

4) Post a photo of your experience on Instagram or Twitter with the tag #QuestScouts. You can also share your work in our Facebook group.

Read a fictional novel whose plot significantly features pizza. (The CHEESEier the better!)

1) Research and choose a book whose plot significantly features pizza. Perhaps it takes place in a pizza shop? Or features a pizza delivery worker with aspirations of going to culinary school? Just make sure pizza makes a significant appearance.

We invite you to read something that you normally wouldn’t read. Maybe a romance novel about a quarterback who moves to Italy? Or a pizza worker meets monster plot? Remember- The CHEESEier the better!

2) Write a short book review and post it in the comments below. Include the name of the book, author, and what you thought of it.
